Akbar Majeed

Position: The Director

Akbar Majeed is a filmmaker, cultural strategist, and social worker whose work sits at the intersection of sports, culture, storytelling, and community. A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, he earned his Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, with a focus on community and economic development.

Through his work with Rise Sport and Concrete2Green, Akbar builds cultural platforms that use media, sport, and design to tell authentic stories and create new pathways for underrepresented communities. His background in social work gives him a grounded understanding of access, opportunity, and community development, while his creative work translates those themes into films, campaigns, and cultural experiences.

His debut feature documentary Can We Kick It? reflects that vision—exploring soccer through the lens of urban culture while elevating the communities, voices, and possibilities often left out of the larger sports conversation.
