CAN WE KICK IT? COMES TO GREENSBORO FOR SPECIAL GHOE WEEK SCREENING ON OCTOBER 29
GREENSBORO, N.C. — October 2026 — Can We Kick It?, the award-winning documentary examining American soccer through the lens of Black culture, history and opportunity, will come to Greensboro for a special GHOE Week screening on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at AmStar Four Seasons Station.
The Greensboro event marks a meaningful homecoming for the film’s creator and director Akbar Majeed, an alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University, and brings the film’s national conversation into a community deeply connected to HBCU culture, sport and Black excellence.
Produced by Rise Sport and Concrete2Green, Can We Kick It? asks a simple but important question: if soccer is becoming one of the most important sports in America, who gets to be part of its future?
Through history, personal stories and perspectives from across the game, the film explores access, representation, player development, culture and the barriers that have shaped the relationship between Black America and soccer in the United States.
“Coming back to Greensboro with this film means something different for me,” said Majeed. “I’m an A&T alum, so GHOE is more than a weekend — it’s culture, community and history. Can We Kick It? is really about those same things: who we are, how we see ourselves and how we create space in places where our stories have too often been overlooked.”
The Greensboro screening continues a 2026 run that began with the film’s premiere at The People’s Film Festival in Harlem, where Can We Kick It? was named Best Documentary, and has included screenings and events in Baltimore, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Harlem and Kansas City.
The film has also attracted national attention during an unprecedented period for soccer the United States, with the men’s World Cup being hosted here this past summer and with the continued growth across the women’s game, youth development and professional soccer in America.
But Can We Kick It? looks beyond the growth of the sport itself.
The October 29 screening is designed not only as a film event, but as an opportunity for Greensboro audiences, HBCU alumni, sports fans, parents, coaches, educators and members of the broader community to participate in that conversation.
